16th August Dunton Bassett Church to Ashby Parva 4.5 mls.

This was the weather forecast. So we played safe and stayed local.

It was drizzling when we started so the cameras only came out very occasionally.

Grey skies paint a different picture.

A new tree planted outside Ashby Parva.

Down by the almshouses before heading to the Holly Bush.

Enjoyed our break before setting off back.

Still grey skies, ah well, there's always next week.

9.8/19 walking from Broughton Astley to Cosby circular via top and bottom paths. app 5 miles.

Yet again the weather forecast was not good so we kept our walk quite local walking from Broughton Astley to Cosby via the fields. This would also give us the opportunity to try out the new cafe in Cosby, The Cook in the Nook.

On our way to the one of the most difficult stiles on route, well, certainly the most unusual.

Everybody catches up on the news of the week.

Crab apple tree laden with fruit.

A pause as everybody catches up.

The sun came out and although it was a bit breezy it was very pleasant for walking.

It's not usual to have to shout "car approaching"  in the middle of a field!

Back on the road in Cosby.

Some of us who were towards to back of our group were shocked by the loud bang of a car as it shed part of its underside.  To our surprise the car didn't stop so we assumed the damage wasn't too great. This is the debris which shot off directly in front of us.

At the Cook in the Nook we were made most welcome.

After our  break we gathered together for the walk back.

The route back was a little higher than the route in, hence we felt the wind a bit more.

Even more scenic up in the higher parts of our countryside. Another mile and we would be back at our starting point.
Good walk and it stayed dry all the way round.

2/08/19 Circular Walk from Wistow. approx 4.5 miles.

The day before our planned walk in Derbyshire the news was: emergency services will continue their efforts to prevent a damaged dam from collapsing in Derbyshire, as forecasters warn more bad weather could be on the way.

 Dam near Whaley Bridge.
Emergency repairs to the damaged dam.

Torrential rain, and scary scenes from localities close to our walk destination in Derbyshire caused the cancellation of our walk in the Derbyshire Dales. Better safe than sorry.

We opted for a local walk around the Wistow area. Popular choice because of the cakes on offer at the local cafe.

The sun was not blazing but it was warm enough for a good brisk walk without coats.

Setting off out of Wistow.

Maize crops have certainly taken advantage of the British weather. sun and rain in copious amounts.

Still a few grey clouds about but nothing to dampen our spirits.

A little break whilst we all re grouped at the farm in Kilby.

Leaving Kilby we passed a bin lorry and faces perhaps reflect the odour emitting from said vehicle.

A waterlogged field, not a major hazard, just a bit squelchy.

Rural field bridges can be quite interesting in their construction. Two posts and a plank is quite usual.

Horses taking an interest in us.

Up through this field on to the banks of the canal.

A short walk alongside the canal before turning off into Newton Harcourt.

A new build, not in keeping with the surrounding area we thought.

After arriving back at Wistow, because it was the school holidays and the maze was open, it was madly busy so we opted for the local pub in Kilby.

Surprise, surprise it was a happy anniversary day and cakes were supplied by the happy couple which spread joy to all.

Happy Anniversary, cheers, let's have many more.

Well, where will we be walking next week?
