16 Sept 2014 Willie and Sheila return from Yorkshire.

Willie and Sheila returned from their holiday in Yorkshire with quite a tale to tell.

Their visit to York included the Railway Museum.

A close up of one of the most famous names.

It is a bit smokey in there

After a good look around some carriages they wandered along the platform and decided that it would be great to have a trip on a train again so  .....

..... as soon as they could arrange it, off they went.

Just the ticket -  we'll get on that steam train.

Comfy seats

You do get a lovely view of the countryside.

The next stop is Aidensfield, we'll get off there. We might bump into that scruffy bloke in the old army coat, you know, Greengrass.

Well, there's the pub and across the road is his van.

Time is getting on  -  so must get back to Leicester in time for the Friday walk.

We'll catch this one.

Bye bye Yorkshire.

See everybody at Rutland Water

19th Sept 2014 Walk in the area of South Kilworth.

Very sketchy details of the walk are available; it was in the area of South Kilworth. Everybody enjoyed tea and coffee at South Kilworth Golf Club.

No photographs were taken on the day but everyone enjoyed the walk.

The following pictures of the South Kilworth area have been borrowed from the Leicestershire villages website to illustrate the lovely walk.

The Oxford Union Canal in Autumn

Don't forget it's Rutland Water next week.

12. 09. 2014 Saddington to Foston Locks via Gumley and return approx 6.5 mls.

The map shows the route taken. We parked at Saddington and then took the hilly route to Gumley walking out of Gumley and down to Foxton Locks.

As you can see it was a bit hilly in places.

A few of the locals popped out to watch us walk by - very friendly and quite content to get on with the business in hand for the day. Well, you have to keep working when the boss is watching, especially when he is such a big fellow.

Walking out of Gumley and on to the canal path we headed for a cuppa etc etc.

The topics of conversation were very lighthearted.

After tea and coffee we set off back to Gumley and then down by Saddington reservoir before returning to Saddington.

Everybody enjoyed the walk and are looking forward to the next one.

Sunday 7 September 2014

5th September 2014 walking in Burbage Woods and Common. approx 4 miles

It was a lovely morning and just right for a stroll on Burbage common and in the woods.

Ten of us set off from Cosby to Smithy Lane at Burbage where there is ample parking space.

We soon got into walking gear. Willie popped up looking for a haversack ride.  Sheila had gone shopping, apparently in need of some new gear for their next holiday.

Off we went into the woods on the right and then straight out into the fields heading for a farmhouse in the distance.

Unrepeatable !!!!

Blackberries looked good

There are times when you could do with  a stick

It was just like this ???

After the farm we turned left on the lane heading for the railway bridge.

The farm

The locals
Always somebody digging a hole.

Winter collection

After passing the mountain of winter straw we came to the railway bridge. The train drivers tooted at the girls as they sped past, good for the ego and put a smile on lots of faces!

After a bit of train spotting it was down to the cafe at the visitor centre, about another mile ahead. Nobody minds queuing when you have a great choice of cakes and you can't decide on which one to choose.

That chocolate cake soon disappeared. We have to mention the coffee, freshly ground coffee and dispensed really hot............ really good!

We then set off  on the last section of the walk; it wasn't a long way to go,  just far enough to settle the cake and drinks before we drove home.

See you all next week.

PS  Please keep checking the blog for details of an away day to Rutland Water very soon.
