8/5/2026 Wistow Garden Centre round walk.

Our regular walk organisers have taken a holiday so the responsibility for the walk has been passed to me.

I walked the route the previous day with a couple of others.  Very enjoyable in the sunshine.

Checking out the walk.

Info for the walkers:

Weather for Friday currently forecast “Light Showers”.  Walk is from Wistow Cafe, across fields to Kilby and then along the Grand Union Canal and then back to Wistow.  Total Distance is 4.8 miles, the time 3 hours.

See Map attached.

Meet at Wistow Café at 10 am.

There are 7 Stiles on the walk.

There were no fields with cows today.

For those who want to meet us for coffee and cake we should be back at the Café by 1 pm.

Please check Google Maps, when we went today there were road works on Foston Road, near to the junction with Welford Road.  (10 minute delay).  Looked like it will be completed by tomorrow.  They were filling potholes.

Photos tell it all. Great day out.

Thank you - a great walk enjoyed by all.

1/5/2026 Walking from Cosby to the White Horse Broughton Astley.

      Smashing day for a walk.

Heading out of Cosby

Into the fields off Shuttleworth Lane.

Through the fields towards the old railway line that was axed in Beecham times.

Got a good shot lined up?

Cottage Lane, Broughton Astley.

Heading for the White Horse.

Time for a cuppa and a chat.

Joined by some not walking on the day.

Off we go on our way back to Cosby

Over the brook heading for the fields.

Not far now?

Well up this field and a few more.

Spotted in the distance - Cosby.

How to negotiate awkward stiles. This is  a double one, very tricky.

Farmers working in the fields like to stop and and have a chat, can be very lonely working out there.

Wouldn't like to get tangled up with this.

We are nearly there now.

Cosby just around the corner.

Great walk about 5 miles.

See you all next week.

24/04/2026 Walking around the Outwoods near Loughbourgh

Beautiful bright morning. Ideal for a walk out with friends.

Off we go.

A lot of tree thinning has taken place.

Views of Loughborough in the distance.

And the now defunct power station just over the border in Nottingham.

We were checking out the bluebells here.  Not as many and as dense as in Burroughs Woods in Ratby but still rather beautiful.

A welcome seat almost at the top of the hill so an excellent photo opportunity too good to miss.

Back on track.

Getting down for the close-up.

Enjoying the sunshine outside of the cafe.
