25/2/22 Short walk after the storms.

Storms have passed, 60 mph in our area and up to 100mph elsewhere.

We cancelled last week's walk for obvious reasons but this week we went out for an interesting walk around the Blaby area after parking up at Bouskell Park, Blaby.

Lovely and sunny though a chilly day.

Headed off through the Long Walk and then out over Hospital Lane taking the path adjacent to Oakfield Park towards Countesthorpe.

A new path has been constructed over the last couple of years. Although close to their homes, some walkers had yet to try it.

Coming out of this area of greenery and lovely open space we took the Countesthorpe Road  back into Blaby.

At the Turntable Cafe in Blaby we enjoyed their excellent coffee and cakes for some.

An appropriate get well card was sent to one of our walkers.

As you can see he is progressing quite well and sends his thanks to all to his wellwishers.

See you all next week.

11/2/2022 A bit of Snowdrop spotting at Newton Harcourt.

Wistow Church, our first port of call.

After a quick trip through the church yard we set off up to the canal.

Just a little mud patch on the other side of this stile.

Good to be out and about.

Another view of Wistow Church using photo lens magnifier.

On to the canal side. One of our group had walked this a couple of days ago and said the ground was firm with just a couple of muddy parts.

Barges moored up for a while.

Looks like we have found one of those muddy patches.  Some muddy patch!

The very dodgy fence came in handy.

It did get better.

Reflective moments on the canal side.

Up the steps to the bridge.

Well the question is how many steps. The answer I'll pop back and start again. On your bike.

The bridge moment is about to happen.

Must be joking!

Talking about a bridge moment, looking at those cracks in the bridge walls it's a good job we didn't stay there too long.

A  housing conundrum. Who likes it, who doesn't, just like Marmite  really.

Masses of snowdrops in Newton Harcourt Churchyard.  Beautiful!

The sun making it look extra special.

Just a short walk back to Wistow for coffee and cake.
Lovely walk, see you next week.

4/2/22 Cosby via Shuttleworth Lane, Cottage Lane and back. approx 4mls.

We couldn't resist the temptation of another walk up Shuttleworth Lane while it was still shut and without traffic.

After our short walk out of the village we set off across the fields towards Cottage Lane at Broughton Astley.

A little bit of mud here and there.

A good day for walking.

At Cottage Lane we turned left towards the very busy A426 then soon after another, another left turn into the top end of Shuttleworth Lane.

Absolutely great, no traffic down here.

On our way to check on the road works progress.

Looking good?

Holding the gate steady so we could negotiate our way around it.

Looks like this bit is just about finished.

Back in the village.

Unfortunately, it's very unlikely that we'll ever be able to repeat this walk as Shuttleworth Lane is due to reopen next week and it would be just too dangerous.  It was good while it lasted.
