26th December 2025 a day off with families. Next Walk 2nd of January 2026.

26th December 2025 a day off with families.

Next Walk 2nd of January 2026.

19/12/2025 Christmas Munch.

Time flies just like Santa and all his famous deer. Once a year and here we are again at The Shires. Enjoyed by all, it is a tradition we wouldn't want to miss.

A great success with fine food, friends and fun.

Thanks to all for coming and thank you to those who did the organising, the quiz, the photos of the feast and all those taken during the past year and everyone who contributed in any way to the running of our lovely group. A great team effort.

Enjoy the photos, they're in no particular order.

Part one - having a chat whilst we wait to be served.

Part two - food is served including a very good carvery and excellent service by the young staff who were very professional and polite.

Some starters.

Part three and our brain cells and memories were tested to the full.

Our quiz master had us guessing.

The winners were announced and the prize of Heroes chocolates was presented which was, very sportingly, handed around for everyone to share - most enjoyable.

A Christmas card with pictures highlighting our walks during 2025 was given to everyone, thank you, a lovely reminder.

Unfortunately there were no pictures available of the speeches and presentation of cards and super generous gifts including theatre tokens, afternoon tea, flowering plant and homemade goodies.  Thank you all, we love our get togethers throughout the year.

12/12/2025. Walking around the pretty village of Cosby.

Weather isn't promising to be kind today so a short walk around the older parts of Cosby seems a good idea. So we set off for the settlements then back down into the centre of Cosby.

Down to the fish and chip shop and across the brook.

A groupie picture is a must in the village.  The yarn bombers have been busy again, all dressed for Christmas.

They could have joined in to the groupie

Around the corner on to Broughton Road to see more of the yarn bomb Christmas display on the other side of the road.  It's always amazing, there are lots of talented locals.

Frozen in time.

Working our way back to the centre of the village before heading off to the Village Hall for a cuppa.

Someone got a surprise when cakes and drinks were served up together with a rendition of Happy Birthday.

That massive card was the giveaway.

The cakes were absolutely yummy. A big thanks to everybody for organising the celebration.

As well as the card a very generous gift of a sportswear token was presented. Thank you very much everyone, that will be very useful.

Again thanks to all.

5/12/2025 Walking from Dunton Bassett to Ashby Parva.

Having discovered the Hollybush at Ashby Parva has reopened, we're off to see for ourselves.

Leaving Dunton  Bassett.

Keep your eyes out for tractors etc along here.

    Off into the country

Another tractor

This one spits.

Canine friends love a cuddle.

Assorted door wreaths, very festive.

A group photo or two.

A four x four with adornments.

Into the Hollybush for coffee etc.  It's looking good with new owners with fresh ideas.

Homeward bound.

Approaching Dunton Bassett.

I've had a great day, hope you have too.
