Cosby to Croft approx 6 miles.

Eclipse day and we were looking forward to viewing the event (with care).  As anticipated, while the eclipse was happening it turned much colder and darker - quite spooky!

These pictures were taken around 9.30ish so it was before the start of our walk. The photographer wasn't too happy with the quality of the pictures and said he'd do better next time!!

The walk was from Cosby to Croft. Looking at the map you can see Croft Quarry, a big hole in the ground (top left) and getting bigger all the time.

Twelve walkers turned up and soon got in walking mode, leaving Cosby via the allotments.  There is a proposal to sell off the allotments for housing, much to the concern of most of the locals.

Leaving Cosby behind us, we came across a fallen tree. One or two of us remembered a similar fallen tree on the same path-way last year. It's a damp exposed area so perhaps that's the reason
why.

At the duck pond there was quite a bit of activity because it's that time of the year, you know.

 

Leaving the duck pond we took the path diagonally across the field. Seems as though the council had been around earlier to make sure we take the right path (this time!).

 Local farmers do seem to be adopting a greener way of powering their farms. As we walked past the wind turbine a good view of our destination came into sight.


We climbed over the style just before we emerged through a hole in the hedge at the busy main road. It was noted that, apart from one, all the styles were in good repair (entrance to the Settlements from the fields). 

After crossing over the road with great care we headed towards Croft over the fields.

It was Friday 13th and Red Nose Day - some people just can't help themselves!

Cloudy, that's what the weather forecast said and cloudy it was.

We walked from the car park down to the Nook then Chapel Lane and out of the village via the Wimpy Estate.

Luckily there was no bull but there was plenty of mud in that field. We crossed into the golf course  ....

 

.....  and then over the disused railway passing alongside a newly built, rather grand house on Shuttleworth Lane.

At Shuttleworth Lane we turned left towards Lutterworth Road then right and right again after about twenty yards into Cottage Lane.

When we're walking around the lanes it's not pleasant to come across fly tipping. Unfortunately we do, and shockingly it does seem to be on the increase.

On the way for that cup of coffee back in Cosby.
