27th May 2016 Croft to Stoney Cove. App 5 mls.( & Willie and Sheila's holiday in Suffolk)

Willie and Sheila went on holiday to Suffolk last week.

As always, looking for a lift where ever they go.

This is Orford Ness National Nature reserve, a WW2 and Cold War testing station for the military in its day, now in the care of the National Trust.

Orford Ness Lighthouse is a crumbling ruin, the sea getting closer, ready to demolish it at any time.

Last boat of the day back from the island with the volunteers.

They had a  great day at Flatford Mill.  What would have Constable thought about Willie and Sheila getting in on his pictures?

Well, they had a great holiday but we'd better get on with Friday's walk.

We all arrived at Croft church and parked outside.

The weather was very good, one of those days when you wonder what to put on. The walk hadn't been checked out, so anything could happen.

After crossing through the cemetery we came across the first part of the walk that was overgrown - there was more to follow!

It wasn't too bad - it always makes the day a bit more interesting but not if you're wearing shorts.

After passing a couple of fields of broad beans we came across Holly and some good advice from his owner.

Further on we passed some rather large pigs. Unfortunately, we didn't catch them on camera as they were too far away from us.

 Under a small railway bridge.

Then back into more over grown hedges - all good fun!

You've got to laugh!

After that little bit of excitement we walked down past another field of broad beans. Then we came across a herd of cows just about off to the milking parlour.

A few of our walkers were rather pleased when we got into the next field.

Then they realised we had to cross the adjoining field. We grouped together making ourselves large and the cows then either gave way or went around us. This doesn't always work, it always pays to be wary.

After crossing the field without any mishaps, we joined the bridle path into Stoney Stanton.

We turned towards Stoney Cove Diving Centre where we enjoyed a well earned cuppa overlooking the lake.

Entering Stoney Cove under the old road bridge.

Willie and Sheila were joined by a friend for coffee. Incidentally, they're off to France for four weeks soon. Yep, another holiday!

Could be the Mediterranean?

Stoney Cove is one of the foremost diving centres in England. There is a double decker bus, a submarine and all sorts down there in the lake.

Leaving Stoney Cove we set off on our way back. Walking down a bridle path we came across a farmer well in tune with walkers enjoying the countryside.

A pile of tired tyres.

A trailer that had been parked in the same spot too long.

Then to the next part of the walk -  a field of oil seed rape with no visible path across.

Ah well, it's roughly that way.

When you've passed through the field and look back, it's quite beautiful.

Back out into open fields and much easier going.

A huge extension.

And back to where we started from.

Great walk -  see you all next week.
