8th August 2014 walk from Blaby to Aylestone Meadows via the Old Central Railway and back via the canal.

Twelve walkers left Cosby for the short trip to Blaby, parking on the industrial estate just
off the by-pass. We got on to the public footpath and headed off towards the Great Central Railway track which goes all the way into Leicester.

As we passed over the canal we were able to get our first view of  a canal boat. It's a nice way to spend a lazy day or two but a few of us agreed that it might get a little slow going after a while.

Leaving the canal behind and after walking through part of Glen Parva we got on to the Great Central Railway track.

On leaving the old railway track we crossed over the canal and joined the canal towpath to start the walk back. We stopped and regrouped before heading to the Kings Lock Cafe where we're always made to feel welcome.

At the cafe, as usual, we enjoyed tea, coffee and cakes and a good old natter. Mind you, most of us had been having a good old natter since starting the walk.!!!

After our break we set off back along the canal towards Blaby.

The jam makers among us pointed out that the  blackberries are waiting to be picked.

Water activity

We sat down for a while to watch two boats going through a lock together.

We disturbed a flock of geese grazing by the canal edge but they soon settled down after we had passed.

Not far from here we turned right, back towards our cars at Blaby and another delightful walk came to an end.

Not to worry, in seven days time we will be off on another Cosby Friday Walk - hope to see everybody there.

P.S. Willie and Sheila are in Wales on holiday - guess we will be told all about it next week.
