18th October 2024. Sutton Warf to Battlefield Centre
Photographs and report on the Friday Walk. – just over 4 miles and we didn’t get lost. Others joined us at the Visitors Centre.
Holidays and colds reduced our numbers to twelve for the walk
along the Ashby Canal.
We parked at the Sutton Warf car park and crossed the canal and took
the tow path towards Shenton.
The sky was grey, but it was warm and the clouds were forecast to
disperse during the morning. Some trees had developed their autumn colour but most were keeping green.
The towpath is well maintained and though there were a few puddles
it was a pleasant walk. Quite a few ducks and canal boats, very few
fellow walkers.
We walked as far as Shenton where we took the road under the canal, turned right and walked to Shenton Station.
At this time of year the trains only run at the weekend. Here we
crossed the railway line and walked up Ambion Hill to the Battle of
Bosworth Monument.
After looking round the Monument we decided it was time for coffee and we went to join the members of our group, who had decided not to walk, in the Visitors Centre
After coffee and cake we completed the walk by going down the hill through the wood to the canal and back to the car park. It was along this part of the walk that we met some mud and puddles.
By this time the clouds had thinned and the sun had come through.
Good walk.
