19th December Walk around Thornton Resoiver Approx 3.5mls.

17 walkers met at Cosby Village Hall car park ready for our last walk before Christmas. As quite a few of us needed to get back early to crack on with the Christmas preparations it was decided to go for a short walk around Thornton Reservoir.
  1.         Thornton Reservoir, peaceful and picturesque location that offers a network of trails and footpaths around the reservoir and through the neighbouring woodland areas. There are also links with longer trails including the Leicester Round. Situated in the National Forest near the village of Thornton in Leicestershire it has a surface area of 75 acres and a perimeter of 2.45 miles. This scenic reservoir also has a popular fly fishery, attracting anglers from all over the midlands.

  3. We arrived at the car park opposite the garden centre and were lucky to get all the cars parked in the small car park.

Cold but sunny it was great weather for walking but there had been a bit of rain so the paths were quite soggy and slippery here and there. As always, the sights across the reservoir were quite stunning.

Surprising to see cattle in the fields when the weather  turns colder.

At the end of the reservoir track we continued along across the dam back towards the car park taking snaps of the church on the way.

Back in the car park a boot door went up and a veritable host of goodies were offered around, mince pies, cakes and biscuits galore. It was, as in the song, ' It's beginning to feel a bit like Christmas.'

Not much left!

The local ducks came to look for tit bits but I'm afraid there wasn't much left for them.

After our mini feast we said our goodbyes to some of the group who had grandparent commitments and others with last minute shopping to do.   The rest of us went on to the golf club for tea and coffee where it was very busy with Christmas parties.

The crackling log fire gave the room a lovely welcoming seasonal glow.

It was a smashing walk just before Christmas; don't forget, for those of us prone to 'cabin fever' we'll do a little walk next Friday, Boxing Day, just to get rid of the cobwebs and stretch the legs.

Merry Christmas everybody.
