Friday's weather forecast was excellent but because of torrential rain earlier in the week we decided to give the fields a miss, opting for a walk from St Bartholomew's Church at Foston to Peatling Magna.
For info: Foston has been a deserted village for nearly 400 years. It was Anthony Faunt who began to enclose the common land on which the villagers relied for their living. One by one they were forced to leave Foston, until by 1622 the enclosure was complete and the village was no more. Only the squire, the rector, and three or four labouring families were left. Today the Faunts’ fine house has gone. It probably stood where Hall Farm stands today. The church of course, and the old Tudor rectory next door still remain.
After waiting for everybody to get into their walking boots and warm jackets (still a nip in the air even with the sun shining) we set off for Peatling Magna along Barley Lane.
St Bartholomew's looks very impressive in it's beautiful rural location.
Walking along Barley Lane with the sun directly in our eyes, heads down to avoid the glare.
We walked past some workers installing a new cattle grid.
Walking down from Great Peatling Lodge farm towards Peatling Magna.
Peatling Lodge Farm in the distance - they certainly have rooms with a view.
Round the corner and back to the cars.
We all went to the garden centre just outside of Countesthorpe for our cuppa and cake for some.
Hope this weather continues until next week.
