2nd December 2016 walking from Broughton Astley to Cosby.app 6miles.

We all met at the White Horse in Broughton Astley. A very grey overcast day, just what you need on the run up to Christmas.

Leaving Broughton Astley we headed for Cottage Lane.  There was a particular reason for this chosen route; there is a building project underway just on the entrance to Cottage Lane and it's always good to check that walking routes are not forgotton by the planners.

Very good price.

The building site - Cottage Lane doesn't seem to be affected too much so far.

We then walked along the lane towards the turning to Cosby.

There is always the odd car passing by heading for the A426 Blaby Lutterworth Road.

At the turning we found a bale of hay there to stop fly tippers getting into the farmer's fields.

As we approached the old railway arch it was interesting to note that the line had been closed for more than fifty years.

For info: 'Broughton Astley railway station was a railway station serving Broughton Astley in Leicestershire. The station was opened on 30 June 1840 on the Midland Counties Railway main line to Rugby. ... British Railways closed the Leicester – Rugby line and its stations, including Broughton Astley which closed on 1 January 1962.'

Moving on through the fields towards Cosby.

To keep the animals in and us out.

It must have been something we said because they all turned and ran to the other side of the field - phew!

Approaching Cosby and out of the fields joining Shuttleworth Lane for the walk into the village.

An information board - a new addition to the Penfold on the outskirts of Cosby.

New signs errected to protect the Cosby ducks. They do have a habit of wandering across the road.

The much acclaimed fish and chip shop and the post office we're about to lose.  It will be moved just around the corner and although we're lucky to still have a Post Office we'll miss our postmaster and mistress.

Our destination Granny Smith's.

They had even reserved some seats for us.

We settled down to put the world to rights.

After our break we left Granny Smith's and set off back to Broughton Astley via the top fields.

This double style has always caused problems.

This time of the year it does start to get a bit sticky in the fields.

More sticky boots.

Not far to go now.

Everything is looking a little on the drab side.

Back into Broughton Astley leaving the mud behind.

Back to where we had left the cars.
