26/05/17 Walking from Huncote to Thurlaston app 5 mls.

The sky says it all. What a day for a walk. Loads of sun screen and lots of floppy hats.

We all set off at a good pace, some going one way others going another, eventually deciding on one path. Out of the Huncote Leisure Centre grounds into the fields.

With the temperature in the mid twenties the ground had become extremely dried out in places making walking quite difficult at times.

Out into the open on our way to a farm bridge which crosses the M69.  Unfortunately, the noise of the traffic while we made our way up and across the bridge was not what we are used to when out in the calm of the country side.

Well anybody can see that he is human and not a vehicle.

Oil seed rape flowers were starting to disappear and the seed pods were very prominent.

We made our way into the next field which had just been sown with maize.  It is a public footpath but we trod with care to avoid damaging the crop.

It was decided that scarecrows were needed in the field to deter our feathered friends. We had a volunteer.

It has to be said that as we were on our way to the cafe (and cake?) in the garden centre at Thurlaston, which was just over the next field, the scarecrow didn't stay there too long.

Not very English?

A very welcome drink and shade.

After our break we continued out of Thurlaston towards the nearby fishing lakes.

Turning left into the fields just outside of the village.

The farm we were walking through had some unusual creatures in their fields.

Woolly alpacas.

We think it won't be long before the local barber will be called in.

The ponies seemed cooler.

Over the local sports field and down towards the fishing lakes.

Sheep keeping cool.

At the end of the lane that comes through the fishing lakes we took a quick look right to see the ford. We turned left here heading towards Huncote.

Two more sizeable fields from this point and we will be back in the outskirts of Huncote.

Huncote Mill with poppies.

Abandoned but not forgotten.

Great walk, with smashing weather.

Don't forget RUTLAND WATER next week.
