22 June 2018 Leire, Ullesthorpe and back to Leire

It was hot and dry.

We met at the Car Park just outside Leire and headed off across country towards Claybrooke.

The rain earlier in the year followed by the sunshine meant that the nettles and thistles had grown well and the footpaths were getting overgrown. 18 of us started and we walked on through the fields of rape and corn, some of the rape almost as high as we were.

The ground was very dry and care was needed on some of the footpaths which were quite rough.

However, we all reached Ullesthorpe where we enjoyed cold drinks at The Chequers. When we arrived at The Chequers we found one of our group was joining us for the return leg of our journey after some morning babysitting duties.

It was very hot for our shortish walk back to Leire and we took our time. Disappointing that the builder of the new houses being built across the footpath at Ullesthorpe hadn't marked the alternative route carefully. It was only because the reroute had been checked out during the week that we avoided the whole group milling about looking for the path.

Because of the heat it was nearly 3:00 pm when we got back to Leire.  A lovely walk, thank you, enjoyed by all.
