28th December 2018 Walking from Blaby to Leicester app 5 miles.

So the first part of the walk shoul be good ie ' the weather forecast'. A little on the grey side, a bit of a breeze and not much chance of rain.

We met at Cosby village hall car park then travelled to the industrial estate just off the Blaby by-pass road. Parking up here we set off for our walk to Leicester, about 5 miles.

Crossing the Grand Union Canal  just after Newbridge Road then on up to Glen Parva, Cook Lane and turned left for the Great Central railway path which leads straight in to the heart of Leicester.

Walking along chatting to each other you may be forgiven if you didn't notice that you had walked under the very busy Soar Valley Ring Road.

To the left, not open today, Kings Lock Tea Rooms a popular stop for walkers along the canal path.

Over the road bridge at Old Aylestone, Braunstone Lane East.

This well decorated bridge is at the bottom of Evesham Road.

Crossing over Upperton Road heading straight to the city.

Walking down to the canal along side John Sandford Sports Centre you come to this spectacular pedestrian bridge leading over to Castle Gardens.

In the distance you can see a portrait of King Richard the third or is it Claudio Ranieri the manager of Leicester Cities Premier League winning side.

Into Jubilee Square passing the temporary Christmas ice rink and big wheel and everybody is ready for a cuppa so we make our way to the nearby Queen of Bradgate.  As you can see, it's all very comfortable,  just the thing after a brisk walk.

Great coffee.

After a cuppa the majority return to Blaby on the bus, while others head to the shops to see if there are any bargains in the sales.

Great walk and great company - see you all next week.

Happy new year everybody.
