12.9.2025 Gumley circular via Foxton Locks.

At Gumley, just about ready for our walk to Foxton Locks.

Leicestershire views all around quite amazing.

The sun keeps poking its head out.

On to the canal path - wonder if we will bump into anything interesting today like we did last time we came here?

The café is just beyond the bridge.

Groupie first.

Cake at the canal-side pub.

Always pleased to see some of our non walkers of the day join us for coffee and chat.

The regular Friday Jazz band - they may be getting on a bit but they do sound really good.

Gathering outside before a walk around Foxton Locks.

Apparently, because of the shortage of rainfall, some locks had been further drained for maintenance work to be carried out.

We got down to the Bottom of the Locks.

Shadows.

Over the canal and back to Gumley

This farmer has a sense of humour.

Okay will do.

Some close encounters with the locals.

Mr Grumpy?

A bit wet at the end but hey ho

5/9/2025 Macmillan Day walking from Cosby to Broughton Astley.

Great day and great turnout for our Macmillan Day walk.

Up Park Road and heading out of Cosby.

The first of several stiles.

The second one.

And the third.

WHOOPS rather spectacularly, somebody has found a ditch.

Unfortunately he didn't land safely so there would be no more walking for him today.  Luckily we have a nurse in the group and a couple of others stayed with our injured walker until a car came to the rescue.

And here it is.

Whilst the rest of us continued on our way.

Extra care taken over more stiles

We arrived at the cake fest.

Our host in the centre,

Still busy, our host at the end.

The delicious scones always seem to be the favourite.

What a spread.

   Our plates

A big smile and cake.

     More cake.

Taking a rest in between cakes or simply full up?

Having given our grateful thanks to our Macmillan hosts, we were on our way home over the fields.

Delayed by apples and blackberries, ready for picking.

These stiles are getting more dodgy.

It's that ditch again!

Not far to go now.

Great walk with lots of great friends.  Thank you so much to our Macmillan hosts, we were very happy to help raise funds for such a deserving cause.  Well done bakers and eaters!

See you all next week
