5/10/18 Walking from Huncote to Thurlaston then via the fishing lakes, the Ford and the base of Croft Hill. app 6 mls.

Smashing walking weather as we set off from Huncote Leisure centre.

Meeting up at 10.45am at the leisure centre.

Walking past the BMX Track at the Leisure Centre.

Leicester Huncote Hornets BMX Club was founded 8 years ago.   After constantly loosing promising older riders to clubs further afield, who had outgrown the small facility and needed full size tracks to train on, the Club began the fundraising campaign to build a larger track.  A National Lottery grant, other funding and donations made their vision a reality.  They are now able to host national standard competitions and have welcomed the return of lost members.
"It was a long time coming," said Treasurer Guy Phelan. "There were lots of meetings, lots of issues and at times we didn't think it was ever going to happen. When it was all done we hosted the Midlands' BMX championships for the opening. There were about 500 riders from all over the country and 1,500 spectators."
The club is continually working to increase membership numbers and link up with more schools and community groups so more people in Leicestershire have the opportunity to take part in this sport.  The club is fully inclusive and now runs sessions for local schools, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

Leaving the leisure centre and down a path leading to the sand and gravel pits.

After emerging from the gravel pit path we made our way alongside the M69 motorway.  From the calm, quiet of the countryside to the mad, noisy rush of motorway traffic.

Heading towards the farm bridge across the M69.

A view of Croft Hill in the distance.

Over the bridge, a peep at the traffic and then down the other side towards Thurlaston village.

Farmers preparing the fields for next year.

Right turn I believe.

Over a stile and into one of our favourite garden centres. Lovely cakes and coffee in the cafe - we've already booked in here for our Christmas munch.

Breakfast with Santa anyone?

The staff are always very happy and pleased to see everybody.

The cake, as already mentioned, is great.

Something to keep everybody happy.

After coffee we continued our walk heading towards the fishing lakes and ford on Watery Gate Lane.

Through the local alpaca farm.

Winter coats at the ready.

Somebody with a back problem or perhaps he was just in the way?

Ok folks we all like a bit of fun. What was that programme, The Last of the Summer Wine?

Out through the fishing lakes.

Up Watery Gate Lane passing by some fly tipping.  Just what makes people do that?

Back into the fields heading towards Huncote.

Another of those tricky stiles.

Through three fields and we reached the outskirts of Huncote.

A novel sign outside of the mill.

Heading back through Huncote.

The leisure centre playing fields at the end of our circular walk.
