Friday 5th April 2019 walking from Cosby to Littlethorpe, Whetstone, Narborough then Littlethorpe back to Cosby. Approx 5.5 miles.

Leaving Victory Park on our way to Littlethorpe.

Out of Cosby towards Littlethorpe.

The path going down to Whetstone and part of the old Great Central Railway.

Up on to the old railway track (Great Central).

The express services from London to destinations beyond Nottingham were withdrawn in 1960. The line was closed to passenger trains between Aylesbury and Rugby on 3 September 1966. A diesel multiple-unit service ran between Rugby Central and Nottingham (Arkwright Street) until withdrawal on 3 May 1969.

After this short section of the walk we came to a part of Whetstone which had been built over the railway route.

We rejoined the track about 400 yards down the street.

Descending onto the Blaby to Narborough/Enderby road.

After passing the local tip we then turned in to the fields heading for Narborough.

Cows chewing the cud, contented to be back in the fields after having been indoors for the winter.

Group photo opportunity at the 15th century pack-horse bridge.

Enderby had a watermill near to the recently pulled down 19th century mill which was at the field end of the Abbey Road play ground and close to the medieval pack-horse bridge at the parish boundary with Whetstone on the Soar.

Heading into Narborough.

A swan spotted sitting on a nest (no photo).

Springtime blossom.

Smiley welcome from the violas.

Spring floral arrangements by the local parish council - thank you.

Narborough Station - view from the bridge.

More swans.

And another nest, complete with an egg, spotted on the side of the River Soar.

Walking through Littlethorpe square.

It was a special birthday celebration of one of our walkers today. She and her husband had invited all 33 of us to call in at the end of the walk to celebrate with them with drinks and cakes, all home made - absolutely yummy, what a treat!

A card signed by everyone was presented to the birthday girl.

The birthday cake was cut and enjoyed by all.

After much cake sampling and thanking our very generous hosts, we parted company for just a few hours before 36 of us met up at the Holly Bush in Ashby Parva for our Anniversary Dinner.

The pictures are not brilliant but you can see the food and company were excellent. We all enjoyed the night out, and yes we will be doing it again next year.  Thank you Holly Bush for a great night out.

Smashing day, see you all next Friday.
