26th September 2025 Walking in Switherland Woods then over to Newton Lindford for drinks and cakes.

What to expect.

 Walk Friday 26 September,

Your leader is away this week enjoying a well earned rest. I am leading the walk this Friday so bring emergency rations, flares etc.

We meet at 10:30am in Swithland Wood North Car Park,   LE12 8TH

We will walk through Swithland Wood to the Hall Gates Entry into Bradgate Park, along the tarmac path to the Newtown Linford Entrance for coffee and cake at Jades Tearoom.

We should get to Jades at Midday for those who want to join us.

After the coffee break we go back into Bradgate Park, Skirt Old John, go back into Swithland Wood and walk to the Car park.

The Car Park charges £2 for parking.  In theory you can pay by App on your phone, however you will not be able to get a signal. Take cash.  Take care when paying, if you drop a coin down the front of the machine, unless you have very long arms, you will not be able to reach it.

The path through the Wood is very pleasant, however it is rough and can be muddy even in dry weather.  Stout shoes or boots are recommended.  There are no stiles.

If anyone wants a lift from Cosby please let me know.

Walk 26 September 2025 – Swithland Wood North Car Park to Jades Tea Room and back (circular walk).

Thirteen of us met at the Car Park, we left a few minutes late, traffic delays in Whetstone.

We walked through the Wood passing a group of Walkers on a Charity Walk going the other way.

Coming out of the Wood we made our way to the Hallgates Car Park entrance to Bradgate Park.  We went along the tarmac path through the Park, passing Bradgate House (undergoing conservation) and the Deer Barn to the Newtown Linford entrance and then to Jades Tea Rooms.

Some non walkers of the day joined us for coffee and cake, and another joined us for the walk back to Swithland Car Park.  This time we went across the Park, around Old John.

Made an attempt to rain on our way back, however we stayed dry.

Got back with all 14 Walkers – an enjoyable walk of about 6 miles.

Deer stags were just roaring, we saw both Roe and Red Deer stags.

Cropston reservoir with very little water.
