A villager came out to feed her horses some carrots. We had a good chat and when the carrots were jokingly offered around one of our group took one and munched at it much to the astonishment of the lady and amusement of us all.
After that interesting interlude we set off down the bridle-way making our way towards the canal.
These signs were a bit unclear - good job someone knows the way.
Reaching the canal we turned left heading towards Foxton Locks.
A good climbing tree. |
Views through the hedges.
Sheep in the shade on the other side of the canal.
A friendly wave to the passing traffic.
The angler with a rod that just about reached the other side of the canal.
We left the canal here and set off up the road towards Gumley.
The views are quite stunning across the Leicestershire ountryside.
Along this lane we have to turn left into a field somewhere.
still looking for that left turn
Found it, so we set off over the field and up the hill heading into the village of Gumley.
Our half way stop the Bell at Gumley.
You just can't beat a cuppa at half way.
Well, well, a friendly face, fancy meating you here. Great to see you - cheers!
A quick read of the local notice board on the way out of the village.
A couple of soldiers on guard.
Out into the fields on the way back to Laughton.
Our walkers motto when walking through herds of cows is to spread out and look big.
This fellow is obviously going to grow up to be a bit 'you move - I was here first' sort of guy.
Back into Laughton.
See you all next week.
