Snowdrops at Loddington & Launde Abbey 9/2/2024

The weather forecast really wasn't good and the rain and wind of the previous days had left their mark across the countryside.

Meeting at Loddington, togged up and raring to go.

Catkins are always a good sign.

We'd arranged to collect the key for the church en route.

Thanks to a bit of research we have an answer to the sign at the side of the road in Loddington.

The photograph with the name WHATBOROUGH seems to be a schematic of the underground water main. We think 250 HPPE describes a 250mm (10 inch) high pressure pipe with a 180mm (7 inch) pipe going off it.

Whatborough: according to Google appears to have been a Roman settlement near to Loddington which was cleared for sheep farming in 1495.

Arriving at Loddington churchyard and a carpet of snowdrops, it never fails to make us smile.

The key to the church - wouldn't want to lose that!

Well something is tickling someone's senses.

Looking for the perfect shot?

We're showing all of our photos -  they'll all great - please enjoy.

Breath taking.

The entrance to the church

That key.

Just leaving after signing the visitors' book.

Where to next?

Lots and lots of mud and water.

Some opted for the garden centre and others chose the walk to Launde.

Water all around but it was passable.

Our very own boot wash, how convenient!

The old railway bed.

The first of several big hills to negotiate.

Another boot wash.

Approaching Launde Abbey

The abbey itself where we met up again with some of our group who had opted for the garden centre.

Muddy boots, drenched coats and brollies were left in the porch to dry off while we tucked in.

Couldn't resist the cream scone.

Lots of other cakes on offer too.

Lunch over and on our way.

Some storm damage from earlier in the week.

THE HILL leaving Launde.  An annual increasing challenge - but we did it!  Phew!

The sun made a bit of an appearance and we were quite warm, maybe it was that hill!

What a great fun day and what great sports we have in our group, thank you all.
