14/6/24 Walk around Watermead.

Starting off from The White Horse Pub at Birstall we set off for a walk around Watermead Park, possibly not all of it but as much as possible. The sky up above was a kind of white, grey and some black clouds. Saying that, it wasn't raining - yet! The weather man said to expect an 80 per cent chance of heavy rain, we were hoping to be in the 20 per cent bit. So, fifteen walkers set off on a walk with not too many other people around.

A great start to our walk was when we heard the hooting of the Great Central Steam train which passes close by - we could hear it but not see it.

Oo those clouds.

Heron waiting for an unsuspecting fish.

A very handsome bird indeed.

We think we saw some sunshine.

A coot and her youngsters.

Sunshine and smiles all round.

Ah ha a few spots of rain.

More than a few spots of rain.

And more babies.

Geese coming to have a look at the new babies.

Waterproofs? should have put them on !!!!

Ah well, let's get on with the walk.

King Lear we think.

Geese and a gaggle of goslings.

Smashing view but not tempted by the wet seat.

Young spiders inside nest

The rain just kept raining.

Puddles formed as we walked along.

Canal boats are very well equipped nowadays with all mod cons.

We all waved as this boat went past.

Now that is a good picture.

Who cares about the rain?

Time to dry out at the White Horse and enjoy a cuppa and a chat

The coffee was excellent.

Sent in by a walker on holiday.

See you all next week.
