10/05/2019 Walking from Mowsley to Gumley app 6.5 mls.

There were only ten of us today - many of our regulars were away on holiday.

After meeting up in Mowsley we set off for our walk to Gumley.

A very special grandpa lives here - does runny eggs too.

 Leicestershire scenery at its best.

The tiny village of Laughton. No buses in this part of the county.

Victorian post box.

Nice floral drive up to the house.

Horses and lambs - it's all part of country life.

Views over south Leicestershire.

We think that this is a Dexter. Good meat but not much of it.

Somebody a bit scared of cows?

 Car coming.

 Walking past the cricket ground.

 The sky keeps changing colour.

Gumley - on the way in towards the water tower.

The local church.

Sleepy village road.

The local library complete with window box.

No, don't fancy drinking this water.

Into the Bell, the local pub for tea/coffee and a big welcome.

It started to rain first of all then these white balls kept arriving.

As the hailstones pounded the canvas at a deafening rate we couldn't hear each other speak.  We just had to laugh!

The marquee started to leak.

Waterproofs were dug out from the bottom of the bag and hastily put on for the return journey.

This was definitely not in the plan for today.

Here you can see hailstones captured by the camera.

And then, just as we left the pub the sun came out.

Must have been a lot of water, little rivers on the sides of the road.

Blocked drain and a waterfall going upwards.

Well, it was a great walk and the sun was with us all the way back.

3/05/2019 Thornton Reservoir walk. App 5 mls.

Friday 3rd May 2019  Thornton Reservoir

Our original plan was to walk from Mowsley to Gumley, a walk with some spectacular views.  The weather forecast was not good and as it was unlikely that we would get the hoped for views we changed our plans and decided to walk round Thornton Reservoir.
Parking was at in the car park at the Thornton end and we walked round the reservoir to Reservoir Road then retraced our steps. Approximately 5 miles.
It didn’t actually rain but it was dull and overcast. However, we enjoyed the usual discussions and the gentle stroll.   The reservoir is still quite low but that didn’t seem to upset the swans who were nesting.
Let's hope for proper spring weather next week.

See you all next week.

26th April 2019 Bluebell walk Ratby. approx 4.5 mls plus surprise cakes.

Bluebells are early this year so a change of planned walk and off to Burroughs Woods to catch them in all their finery.  This is always a popular walk.

After meeting at the car park we set off for a walk around the woods.

It didn't take long to be amongst the bluebells.

Enjoy the photographs.

Walking from one part of the wood to the next.

This tree seems to have grown an amazing moustache.

Bluebells everywhere.

Everybody taking photos.

The gorse makes a good backdrop to the blue in places.

You know who.

Waiting while we all get back together again.

Off on our final part off the walk.

Time for surprise cakes and a cuppas.

Happy birthday girls!

You go first, no you go first.

Great time had by all.

Any more super 70's this year?  We think so.
