26-06-2015 Walk from Willoughby road fishing lake to Whetstone Pastures fruit fields.

The weather forecast predicted cloudy weather with rain arriving in the afternoon.
The walk selected was quite local to Cosby. Starting at Willoughby Rd fishing lake just south of Countesthorpe. With a half way stop at Whetstone Gorse strawberry fields.
The walk was not a particularly long walk but very interesting because the farmers are well known to us and it is always nice to pass the time of day with locals as you walk along.

Entrance to the fishing lakes
After parking at the fishing lakes we set off back up the road towards Countesthorpe and then turned left into the lane leading to Whetstone Gorse Farm.(WE always get permission from the farmer to walk through farmland that is not a public path.)

The farmer does several other activities, you can keep your pets here, or park your caravan and if you want a party, hire a marque and have a barn dance.
After walking through the Whetstone Gorse we continued down the lane towards Whetstone Pastures fruit farm.
At the fruit farm there are play areas for kiddies, a shop selling strawberries(you can pick your own if you want) and a cafe for that all important cup of tea or coffee. Also they do a very good slice of cake.

Willie and Shelia did a bit of campaigning for the farming chaps.they also tried to get some of us to test the milking machine.

They also brought some holiday snaps to show from their holiday in south devon.

'Are we there yet'
Out and about with the locals

The winning shot !!

Hiking in Dartmoor
After our break we went round to the shop hoping for samples.

Looks like we will have to come back later with a car, we could not carry all that we would have liked to buy. after browsing the produce we all set off back to the fishing lakes.

Really good walk the weather was fine and we all enjoyed it looking forward to next week.

 Do not FORGET.

JULY 17th   COTSWOLD WALK DAY.
