8th January Waliking from Dunton Bassett to Ashby Parva. Approx 4.5 Miles.

Twenty walkers met at Dunton Bassett church. It was a nice dry day, the sun was shining  and there was a bit of a nip in the air -  just what you need for a good brisk walk.

We had just one field to cross to reach the lane leading out of Dunton that we would be walking on. One of the locals took quite an interest in the strangers crossing his patch.

The lane out of Dunton to Ashby Parva is normally very quiet, but as everyone was catching up on Christmas and New year events it became pretty lively.

We had quite a few stops to admire the scenery so keeping the group together meant a wait for some now and again to catch up.

Entering Ashby we found we were a little early for the pub so we decided to take a look around the village.

We came across some alms houses with a plaque inserted above one of the doors and discovered a connection with Cornwall.

A queue formed outside the Holly Bush as we were still too early for opening time.

What a friendly bunch of people - all laughing and joking and we hadn't even entered the pub yet!

Willie and Sheila were ready for a cuppa.

After our drinks and more chat we bid farewell to the Holly Bush staff and set off on the walk back.

Fungi had formed at the base of this tree - it looked like two shelves had been put there for the fairies to use.

Yet another good walk, wonder where we will be going next week.
