Definitely a plan B this morning. The weather forecast was not very good, in fact it was awful. Plus on Thursday it had poured down which put great doubt on the proposed route along the canal side which when dry is beautiful but when wet not a nice walk i.e. mud, mud glorious mud!!
Most of us met at Crow Mills car park which is very small, others had to park on the verge outside.
So, rather than the towpath we set off along the gated road to Blaby.
The Crow Mills area has been the site of a grain mill since the 13th century, though the present mill (now a private house) was built later on the original footings. The mill is on the north bank of the River Sence and backs onto the nearby Grand Union Canal, which generally forms the southern boundary of South Wigston.
Crow Mills is also an area that is notorious for flooding.
After a pleasant country walk along Mill Lane we arrived in Blaby.
We headed off to our new coffee stop, a new enterprise Turntable Coffee and Vinyl who offer snacks, cakes and a great range of drinks. After a very friendly welcome we were soon tucking in to our cakes and drinks. To the owner and his team, thank you, we'll be back.
Prices for a good cuppa are very reasonable.
Located inside Blaby Antiques Centre there is also seating outside as well as summer houses for when it's raining.
Fully refreshed we set off on our walk back passing the Blaby All Saints Church.
It didn't seem long before we completed our walk, it was a bit on the short side but we'll do the original another day in better weather.
Take care, see you next week
