07-11-2014 Foston Church to Peatling Magna and back app 4.0 miles.

It was a very damp morning with the promise of a lot of rain to come. Starting from Foston Church twelve of us set out on a brisk walk to Peatling Magna. It's only a shortish walk along a gated road, a very pleasant stroll to get rid of the cobwebs.

Getting togged up

Breezy but warm

On the way we passed a 'milk bar'.

Some of us made light work of the brisk wind.

At Peatling Magna, we checked if the Cock Inn had started to open on a Friday lunch time - it doesn't so.............

....... we turned around and set off back the way we came.

On reaching the cars we quickly peeled off the  boots and waterproofs and just five minutes down the the road we dropped into Glebe Garden Centre for coffee, tea and a great selection of cakes.

Having only done a short walk we had plenty of time for a good old natter.

Before leaving Glebe we couldn't resist checking out their fabulous Christmas displays reminding us that the festive season isn't far away.

31 -10 -2014 Draycote Water app 5.5 miles.

10 of us turned up at Cosby Village Hall car park on a fine day, very warm for the end of October.  We decided to walk around Draycote Water so made our way to Thurlaston village, near Dunchurch, and parked in the village centre.

Walking to the path around the reservoir we passed a converted windmill.

Plenty of people were out enjoying the late summer sunshine. The trees were turning, however, there were plenty of leaves still on the trees.

Coffee and cake was at the Visitors Centre - excellent cake eaten on the terrace with a fine view over the reservoir.

Here we came across a group of aged Mods on their scooters out for the day.

Well, it stayed nice and fine for us, hope next Friday will be the same.

This photo has nothing to do with the walk, but seeing the oldie rockers brought back a few memories.

24/10/2014 Fleckney to Wistow via canal then return journey by fields. 5.5.mls

The weather forecast was a bit on the non committal side, 'will it,   won't it rain?'.  All twelve walkers, although well prepared, would prefer it didn't.

All togged up

The weather started to brighten up after a short distance so the odd patch of mud didn't look so sticky in the sun.

Milk bar is over there.
I was here first.

We passed fields of cows on our way down to the canal side and then on towards Wistow.

.

We turned left over a bridge into the fields with Wistow Church in sight and then up to the garden centre cafe for a cuppa and a cake

All togged up again, we were ready for the return round trip over the fields to Fleckney.

Eyes down

The paths become muddy and a little on the narrow side where farmers had just planted their crops.

On reaching the outskirts of Fleckney we made our way along the footpaths through the estates back down to where we had parked the cars near the allotments.

Luckily the rain held off and other than having very muddy boots we completed the walk quite dry.

P.S. Willie and Sheila have gone on holiday again - Somerset we think.
