Billesden Walk 16/09/22 The Saga!

This week's walk: The Saga!

Monday

Recce of proposed route. We couldn't work out route A. Accomplished walk by route A (1) and return via planned route B.Did not visit planned pub (Queen's Head) because of heavy rain.

Rang pub p.m. re parking in their car park and drinks. Owners away and junior staff gave negative response.

Emailed pub to reiterate request and received reply:

"Sorry can't do it there are plenty of other pubs in the area" (Their grammar, not mine).

Tuesday/Wednesday
Fuming!

Thursday
Return visit to village to suss out other pub (New Greyhound) and parking facilities. Pub closed (despite being scheduled to be open) - window note re opening at 4.30 p.m. (hence timing of this email).

"Crept in" the Queen's Head car park and saw the biggest pub garden we've ever seen

Friday (at last!)
The Walk: Billesdon to Rolleston

(a) Meet at Billesdon at 10.15 a.m. at Market Place (outside New Greyhound Inn). I recommend drivers park on roadside on Leicester Road between White Hart Close and Market Place (LE7 9AQ) as extremely limited parking on Market Place. Your choice about route, but I suggest coming via A47/Houghton on the Hill and entering Billesdon from Leicester Road off A47. Be aware that road from Kilby to Kibworth is closed before  Kibworth and Welford Road is closed near Bruntingthorpe.

Non-walkers - we'll be likely to be back at New Greyhound Inn approx 12.30/12.45

(b) Easy walking, 4 miles-ish. Tarmac/gritted path. Steady rise on way back. No stiles.

Health and safety warning! 100 yard stretch on speedy road. Walk on narrow grass verge - wider verge on other side of road shelves and we don't want to lose too many members. You've been warned!

Weekend
Email to follow to owner of Queen's Head following his well-earned rest!

We have lots of photos please enjoy

The cake was unveiled.
Well done to the cook and well done to the Cook de Trainer.

Big smiles all round, the day just got better - with cake (and all for a good cause).

Big thanks to our brilliant leaders and photographers of the day.
