23rd June 2017 Cosby to Willoughby Waterleys

Walk 23 June,  Last week we walked from Willoughby Waterleys to Peatling Parva. It was suggested that there must be a walk from Cosby to Willoughby Waterleys and back which would be about 5 miles and should be mostly off road.

Looking at the map there were footpaths marked which looked a reasonable walk.  Coffee could be at the General Elliott and the return would be via Shuttleworth Lane and the Golf Course.

Sure enough the paths were there and reasonably well marked.  It was obvious however that the paths were very little walked and the recent heat after the earlier rain meant that the nettles were rampant.

An attempt to mark some of the footpaths had been a partial success.  The marking had not removed the crop from the footpath, it had just meant that it was slightly less tall – well marked but still necessitating walking along looking at ones feet to check the ground.

A warm day but not as hot as the previous record breaking days.  A few drops of rain at one point. Luckily the rain cloud went away as most of us did not have rain coats for the walk.

The General Elliott in Willoughby actually had a sign outside welcoming walkers and cyclists. Coffee at £1.70 a cup was excellent.

After checking out facial expressions and the debate on the conditions we think that the walk must have been great fun for all. Well done to the leader on the day.
