For our away day we went off to Pitsford Water which offers something for everyone. A lovely blend of woodland, meadow and grassland, there are stunning views over the water, making it a great setting for walking, cycling, fishing, sailing, water sports and bird watching.
We parked at the Pitsford Causeway Car Park all of us meeting up before 10.30 am.
It was quite a breezy, very bright day and the forecast didn't contain rain until later but we were well prepared with waterproofs etc loaded into our bags along with our lunch.
The caption 'Thanks for Visiting' looks as though we have finished instead of just starting. The reason for this was that we were going to call at the Fishing and Nature Lodge to make use of the facilities as the next ones on route would be approximately two hours walking away.
Back across from the Lodge we set off on our walk.
The route is well signposted and there is plenty of information to read as you walk around.
On our left, close to the walk, a private race horse training facility.
On our right, the reservoir with its beautiful scenery.
It was definitely breezy but you hardly noticed it as we walked and chatted our way around.
Approaching a flock of Canada Geese which were making a lot of noise - apparently they chat to each other all the time.
Up they go.
Continuing our walk, more woodland to our left and water to the right.
As you can see the sky changed quite often with the breezy conditions - we had sunshine for a while then dark angry clouds but luckily the rain held off.
We had a couple of 5 minute breaks so everybody could take a breather.
Old Father Time perhaps?
Got to have your eyes open or you miss the carvings.
Must be collecting for some good cause.
Be warned, a grumpy cat on the loose.
When we did a recce for the walk about a month ago we thought we would have to sit on the ground for lunch but in the meantime, lucky for us, tables and chairs had been newly installed. Thank you!
Smashing venue for lunch.
After a good lunch and a cuppa from the cafe it was time to continue our walk back to the car park along the other side of the reservoir.
There was an interesting find by one of the walkers, a newt, a tiny newt.
Only about a mile or so to get back to the car park.
Sailing looks like fun for some.
A last look at Pitsford Water.
Walk complete we set off for Market Harborough for a bit of retail therapy and a cuppa at a local hostelry before making our way to the Roebuck Inn for dinner that evening
.
Lovely meal and great company - thank you all for a smashing day.
