23-10-2015 circular walk from Fleckney via canal to Wistow then over fields back to Fleckney approx 5 miles

So it was going to be cloudy but dry, pretty much a good day for a walk in the countryside.

We set off from Fleckney after parking near the allotments.

Eighteen of us made our way towards the Grand Union Canal. Some walkers had brought along some visiting friends from Cornwall.

After crossing the canal we  turned right then headed up towards Wistow.

When walking along the canal bank you have to focus i.e. keep to the path and don't wander into the water -  as if we would, but it has happened !!

The Autumn colour along the way was absolutely stunning, check out the snaps from our happy snappers.

The panel of judges couldn't make up their minds which ones to dump so they're all included.

On reaching the bridge where we turn left for Wistow church we had little rest and a natter.

After catching our breath we set off for Wistow Rural Centre and a cuppa.

At Wistow Church we turned right towards the Centre about two hundred yards up the road.

While walking up the road a magnificent fungi was spotted in an adjacent field and snappers hurried to capture it in all its glory.

Then we arrived at our watering hole.

These walks are also about trying the gourmet delights on offer - cake was required - we had another three miles to go to finish the walk!

Off we went, some with coffee in hand - others had coats to wrestle with.

Up hills and down hills  .....

 .....through woodland.....

..... and fields of maize....

..... then back out into Fleckney.

Hey everybody, that was a good walk.

Looking forward to next week - hopefully, the weather will be as good as this week.

  1. Wonderful to see the Cornish walkers amongst the locals. What beautiful scenery we must try and join you some time too.
