9-10-2015 Walking around Burbage Woods. app 4.5 miles.

It was a beautiful morning forecast, a little bit of cloud and lots of sun.

No messing about this morning, out of the cars, boots on and into the woods.

After the first part of the walk we emerged from the woods and headed over some fields towards Woodhouse Farm.

On the way we spotted blackberries which just had to be sampled.

The hedgerows were full of colour - berries of all types, sloes, blackberries, rose hips, elderberries, hawthorn - glorious!

A little bit of nifty leg work was required on the high stile coming out of the fields into the lane near the farm.

After a quick discussion we decided to pop into the farm shop to check that they would be making their delicious pies for Christmas and, yes they will.

On leaving the farm we set off along the lane back towards Burbage Common.

We passed some impressive looking gates on the way to the railway bridge which crosses the Leicester to Birmingham track.

Around the corner from the bridge we walked on to the common and set off in the direction of the cafe and visitor centre.

We thought that the trees were not quite at their best yet colour wise, we think another week perhaps and they will be even more stunning.

Everybody was ready for a cuppa at this point so we set off for the cafe.

Coffee, tea, cakes and lots of chatter make for a happy break.

As you can see the cake went down a treat.

Leaving the visitor centre we set off to the woods on the far side of the common.

After leaving that particular section of the woods we walked through the tunnel under the railway and crossed a couple of fields to more woods.

Chatting away as we always do, we didn't notice at first that the leading bunch went one way and the second bunch went another way which, of course, brought great laughter from all when we realised what had happened. No harm done, after a couple of phone calls we did manage to link up again at the cars in the lane.

Again, another lovely walk, a bit of fun and good company.

Looking forward to next week.
