12.07.2019 Walking from Huncote circular via Thurlaston and the ford back to Huncote. app 5.6 miles.

The above was the weather forecast, below was the reality, very grey skies and a splattering of rain.

So, all suited and booted we set off for our walk.

The sunshine and rain of the past few weeks had created very good growing conditions. Grasses and weeds as well as crops seem to be doing very well for the time of the year.

After leaving Huncote Leisure Centre we made our way past the sand quarry.

Walking alongside the M69 motorway, very noisy and not very pleasant.

Waiting for walkers to catch up before crossing the cattle bridge to the other side of the M69.

We didn't intend to be such a distraction but 31 of us waving at the camera attracted the attention of drivers below who sounded their horns and flashed their lights.

How the camera angle can deceive.

Heading over the fields towards Thurlaston.

The grass got taller at this point.

Thurlaston church in the distance.

Cracking cup of coffee and the tea is also pretty good so we are told.  The garden centre at Thurlaston is well worth a visit.

Cakes going down a treat.

Guess what, somebody didn't know that everybody else knew it was their twenty first again today. So, all together now, a rapturous rendition of happy birthday.

Much to the embarrassment of the birthday girl!

On with the walk, out of the village and through the alpaca farm.

Cute, yes of course they are.

Before heading down to the fishing lakes we waited for everybody to catch up again.

Passing through the local sheep farm.

We were now on our final three fields before returning into Huncote.

Bit of a wilderness but full of butterflies, moths and 100,s of other insects and birds obviously enjoying the al a carte buffet on offer.

Amazing how we manage to get so spread out as we walk along.

Don't forget our Derbyshire walk on Friday 2nd of August.
